Toyota Prius named 2024 Car of the Year by MotorTrend

The Toyota Prius (TM) is the 2024 MotorTrend Car of the Year, twenty years after the hybrid vehicle first won the award in 2004. The case for hybrid ownership is re-emerging after EVs, which have dominated auto market trends for the past several years, are seeing sliding demand. MotorTrend CEO Alex Wellen sits down with Yahoo Finance Live in-studio to discuss its ranking and the shift in how more car buyers are open to consider hybrid vehicles. "Hybrids are really the topic right now because we got so excited about EVs... that we forgot for a moment about the hybrids that were out there and we were trying to make this leap from internal combustion to fully electric," Wellen explains.
